18-12-2015 - What did we do today 17-12-2015 Xb12R in need off love

XB12R big service and repairs brought in from Belgium

XB12R big service, heating up the bike , way to low idle and iregulari running, i check the intake seals first.. as i suspected these are leaking. Chrome pushrods look much better then the plastic OEM can be found here https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=2012&cid=0&s=13-417115&a&aname=Buell_XB_Pushrod_cover_kit_

XB12R big service, first a little top side striping , i will remove the exhaust valve actuator... better for the HP / weight ratio wink-emoticon

XB12R big service, 50000 km and still stock filter... will swap this one for a K&N Filter https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=24&cid=0&s=26995-86A&aname=Buell_XB912_RS_models_KN_Air_filter_2003-2010

XB12R big service, looks good in the airbox, little to no oil

XB12R big service, other thing i check first, as there is a very hard noise comming from the primary ? douse not sound good, i check the chain tension first , this was way to loose , i adjusted and run the bike again to hear if the noise was gone

ALWAYS replace the oil seal on the plug https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=527&cid=0&s=11105&a=&aname=Buell_and_XR1200_O_Ring_Oil_Drain_Plug

XB12R big service, as i need to rotade the engine i start stripping some parts whie the oil is draining

XB12R big service, manifold screw wink-emoticon i wonder what is in the manifold ?

XB12R big service, drain plugs cleaned and fresh o-ring and a little hydrolic loctite, douse not have to be tighened to hard

XB12R big service, old oil fiter off

XB12R big service, the clutch cable is sweating on the connection

XB12R big service, i put some heat shrink over it with the glue layer , this seals up the cable to the metal fitting , and takes care off outer cable dammage where it leaks oil

XB12R big service, now first the rear wheel , brake caliper off

XB12R big service, customer told me all ready the pinch bolt was missing

XB12R big service, the axle was not very tight, but also the bearings are frozen on the axle , note this when your unscrewing the axle , if you keep forcing it you can crack the swing arm ( the 06-up swing arms are know to crack on the oil tank weld )

XB12R big service, 04 model 50000 km still with the first belt smile-emoticon belt https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=5411&cid=0&s=G0500.1AAH&a&aname=Buell_XB_S1S2S3M2X1_128_Tooth_Rear_belt__

XB12R big service, axle is bone dry, i will lube it up

XB12R big service, perhaps just me , being anal... idler pully is the wrong way around , will swap it wink-emoticonit can't hurt , but just looks better i think

XB12R big service, as the customer wanted to replace the belt , removing the right foot peg bracket big surpirce... rear engine mount bolt is only hold on by the bracket as it worked it self out, i noted the engine has been rotated down , perhaps the bolt was loosened and never retightened ? never seen this happen

XB12R big service, the old belt is ready to be replaced, will make a nice spare one belt https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=5411&cid=0&s=G0500.1AAH&a&aname=Buell_XB_S1S2S3M2X1_128_Tooth_Rear_belt__

XB12R big service, swing arm brace removed and new belt on. belt https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=5411&cid=0&s=G0500.1AAH&a&aname=Buell_XB_S1S2S3M2X1_128_Tooth_Rear_belt__

XB12R big service, one off the swingarm brace bolts is a little chewy... will put a new one in, i don't like to leave surpices for the next mechanic , the 15 minute belt change can become a 2 hour drilling job taken out a bolt

XB12R big service, the rear engine mount bolt was not dammaged, rubber is still ok, so tighenning it again , little blue loctite and TQ down to 66 NM , i can imagine this bike felt "loose" cornering

XB12R big service, fresh rubber, and new rear wheel bearings. belt belt https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=5411&cid=0&s=G0500.1AAH&a&aname=Buell_XB_S1S2S3M2X1_128_Tooth_Rear_belt__

XB12R big service, idler pully "right way " around

XB12R big service, and tq down the rear axle

XB12R big service, with a new pich bolt off course , with a little drop off loctite on the new bolt

XB12R big service, so engine rotation, as we also need to swap the exhaust, i remove it, work better with a engine rotation, can be done with original exhaust on, but works beter off

XB12R big service, engine supported with a jack and lossening the front mount Chrome pushrods look much better then the plastic OEM can be found here https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=2012&cid=0&s=13-417115&a&aname=Buell_XB_Pushrod_cover_kit_

XB12R big service, top side loosening all things for engine rotation

XB12R big service, vacuum cap is missing, will put a new one on, when your testing for leaking intake seals carefull not to spray to high , direct it to the intake flanges , or check first if the cap is on, it can give a false reading

XB12R big service, tps and injector wires off

XB12R big service, and throttle cables loose from the grip

XB12R big service, engine down... ready to loosen the manifold Chrome pushrods look much better then the plastic OEM can be found here https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=2012&cid=0&s=13-417115&a&aname=Buell_XB_Pushrod_cover_kit_

XB12R big service, commen mistake if you ask a HD dealer for spark plugs , they give you old sportster plugs... 6r12 is really the wrong heat grade for a XB !!

XB12R big servicem, with the enigne rotated down, easy spark plug change... little neverseas and check and set the gap

XB12R big service, blue seals where used, the can work good, but if there to tight, they will not live long... on this bike the head spacing is to tight for blue seals... you will note this putting in the allen head screws, if you need to force theme in place , it is to tight... https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=1694&cid=0&s=26995-86A&a&aname=Buell_Intake_seal_gasket_blue__thicker__

XB12R big service, a little cleaning and back in with new seals

XB12R big service, engine back up again , tighten the front bolt with 66NM

XB12R big service, hooking up the top connectors and throttle wires

XB12R big service, ziptie the tps sensor wire to the fuel rail... your tps sensor will thank you. and live much longer ( less movement to the wire connections inside )

XB12R big service, time for the front end , bike swaped around and front end supported

XB12R big service, big nono in my book... i have seen these come out... due to vibrating brakes . if you don't need to take off the caliper everyweek... put theme in with loctite

XB12R big service, customer asked me to take a look at the pad pin, as he needed to dril it out , and took the dril a little to deep , i sugjested a thread repair , but looking at it , way to little meat to make a repair, and i needed to unscrew the pin bolt , and i can tighen it lightly,

XB12R big service, and there is the o-ring preventing it to come out... will clean up the pin and caliper and put it in with some loctite,

XB12R big service, front wheel bearings are shot too

XB12R big service, and the spacer is crushed as a sign it has been tightened to hard. i tried scim off the space to have 2 flats again, but the length left over was to little to support bought bearings, ending up mounting a new spacer

XB12R big service, front legs out for oil change , will first clean theme up as i need to slide theme in completely leaving dirt on , will destroy the seals

XB12R big service, fork tools are handy smile-emoticon

XB12R big service, oil lever set , rebound screws zeroed , legs back in

XB12R big service, using some electro tape saves the top cap nuts smile-emoticon

XB12R big service, caliper and pin cleaned, and some loctite on, with the locking o-ring , will never come out if you don't it

XB12R big service, caliper bolts cleaned , and loctite on

XB12R big service, and wheel axle tightened to NM left hand

XB12R big service, and caliper to 50 NM

XB12R big service, side stand off for the chin spoiler brackets

XB12R big service, mnnn that is short ? broken off

XB12R big service, the other one to ?

XB12R big service, compaired to the stock length

XB12R big service, the hole is deep enough ! as i can stick in my screw driver deep enough, i think the customer cut theme short removing / fixing the side stand with the exhaust mounted !

XB12R big service, i will put in new long bolts and red loctite

XB12R big service, TQ hammer exhaust need to be mounted loosening the front pipe to rotate a little for the best fitting ( all bikes are a little different ) can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=3085&cid=10205&s&a&aname=Buell_Torque_Hammer_exhaust_EU_03-07_USA_03-10

XB12R big service, right side chin spoiler bracket on, and new bolts to mount it , i will use our new Alu bolts as these are a heck cheaper then the original shoulder ones... and there plenty strong enough to hold the chin spoiler in place. You can find them here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=11006&cid=0&s=TM81SI&a&aname=Screw_Aluminum_14-20_Silver_Button_w_shoulder

XB12R big service, the spring clip was not on, but a big ziptie wil work also wink-emoticon to secure the velocity stack
