28-10-2015 XB12X oversize pistons

29-10-2015 - What did we do today 28-10-2015 XB12X oversize pistons

XB12X oversize pistons , cylinders with a fresh bore and hone , bored between TQ plates , and new oversized pistons to match, as the oil piston rings where worn out and the bike was blowing to much oil by the head breathers, after mesuring the orginal cylinder , to much taper end un round, best to start with a fresh bore Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons, clean the cylinders very good. soapy watter / cleaner if you run a piece off paper in there it should come out clean.. 1 problem, now the bore will corrode very easy, a light coat off assembly lube is perfect Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , oil rings put on the pistons, best done by hand Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , insert the a piston ring to measure the cap Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons, by pushing in the piston to position the ring Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , the piston helps to have the ring to dept and level for measurement Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , check the gap, this one is to tight Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , now we have a nice tool for this, but a small file will do the trick to Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , as long as you deburr the ring ends Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , rings on, and with new cylinders i find it easyer to put the pistons in the cylinders befor mounting as they are tight and take a little effort to slide on , put the c-clip in on one side Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , last time check on ring markings / position off the gaps , and coat theme with a litle lubrication Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , check piston orientation and push the piston in the bore, using a piston mounting tool is a very big plus Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons , check the piston pin bushings on wear , they need to slide easy with out noticeble play Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons all ok... piston pins half way in , ready to mount Kit can be found here: https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=10699&cid=0&s=T990cc&a&aname=Buell_XB9_2003-2010_Piston_kit__oversize__0010_

XB12X oversize pistons, i leave the rags in for now, as i still need to mount 1 c-clip , base gaskets on

XB12X oversize pistons , place the cylinder assembly over the rod end , and slide the piston pin in

XB12X oversize pistons , mount the c-clip , there are tools for this, but 2 fingers and a flat pushing rod works for me , now remove the rags and slide the cylinder down, with fresh bores it is more off a wigle than slide

XB12X oversize pistons , front one the same

XB12X oversize pistons , now first the pushrod covers back on

XB12X oversize pistons , push the new o-rings fist in the head, little oil to help mounting

XB12X oversize pistons , now mount the head, push it first over the pushrod covers, then find the dowls on the cylinder , not to nick the pushrod o-rings ( been there done that frown-emoticon )

XB12X oversize pistons , little oil on the flats off the headbolts and a little squrt oil on the threads, hand tight to hold the head on

mounting the bolts

XB12X oversize pistons , and tq down the heads

XB12X oversize pistons the same for the rear head, but with extention wink-emoticon

XB12X oversize pistons , bump sticks read to go in, iff all markings are lost, the long one is exhaust

XB12X oversize pistons , rocker box back on , little dap off assembly lube on the valve stem and pushrod end

XB12X oversize pistons , if the rubber rocker box gasket are all twisted and loopy, out the box some little daps off silicone gasket will hold theme in place , to much work to redo it when a gasket leaks becouse it is pinched

XB12X oversize pistons , line out the manifold / coil bracket and top mount

XB12X oversize pistons , headers back on

XB12X oversize pistons , and intake manifold back on

XB12X oversize pistons , lyning out the bracket so it is center to the manifold

XB12X oversize pistons , mnnn ok will put fresh plug in to , easy with the engine down

XB12X oversize pistons , hooking up the injectors... green is rear / white front and the tps sensor

XB12X oversize pistons common , rotating the engine back up and left the breather plugs out . or the intake air sensor is between the frame and the rocker box.. look out for this !

XB12X oversize pistons , engine up and mounting bolt to specs tq down

XB12X oversize pistons , clutch cable hooked back in the lever and adjusted

XB12X oversize pistons , exhaust back on

XB12X oversize pistons , noticed the idler pullye bearings had there best behind theme, will press in some new ones

XB12X oversize pistons , idler pully mounted

XB12X oversize pistons , and rear axle / belt tension back in

XB12X oversize pistons , so connecting the top side things

XB12X oversize pistons , checking the throttle play after putting back the cables

XB12X oversize pistons , tps / idle adjuster screw back in place with ziptie , check it douse not run into the spark plug cables

XB12X oversize pistons, pritty sure nothing can go wrong start up. but turning the engine over by hand a few times to easy the mind never hurts

XB12X oversize pistons , and she is smoking smile-emoticon due the injector feed was drained, it can take a few starts before she stays at idle

XB12X oversize pistons , first heat. due to the fresh bore / new rings there is allot off friction in the cylinders, and they can become hot very fast, looking at the head temp it was only showing 25 deg C and the cylinder where to hot to tough already with in 20 to 30 seconds , let here cool off and do this 3 to 4 times before you take the first ride

XB12X oversize pistons , as she is running very nice , mounting back the rest , i like to put a ziptie on the tps sensor wire to the fuel rail. to releave the tps wire connection in the sensor

XB12X oversize pistons , after cooling down, heat up no.2 still a little low on cold idle , but there is much friction in the cylinders, this will become better , but she is running very sweat ... ready for the the next 60Ksmile-emoticon
