18-11-2014 - Buell XB12R for a check up, front engine mount and rear brake caliper sticking.

XB12R for a check up, notice the front engine mount is almost completely down to the bolt head , is a sign the rubber is cracked.

XB12R for a check up, checking the rear belt , looks like the original one ( 29000 km ) is is not really bad , but looking at the ware i will not take to long, need to keep a eye on this one.

 

XB12R for a check up, rear wheel bearings still feeling good when turning by hand.

 

XB12R for a check up, with the belt off check the idler pulley, for play and noise from the bearings , this one is good to go.

 

XB12R for a check up, rear wheel back in, TQ the axle to 40 NM back up 2 turns and TQ again to 66 NM.

 

XB12R for a check up, the 2004-2005 lower belt guard, put these screws in with neverseas.

 

XB12R for a check up, as you see this guard is picking up allot off dirt, so the screw will corrode easy.

 

XB12R for a check up, un even ware on the brake pads.. try the front slider pin, if this moves very hard, time to clean it.

 

XB12R for a check up, the slider pins can be taken out the most easy way with the caliper bolts in place to hold the bracket.

 

XB12R for a check up, old grease, is making the pin stick.

 

XB12R for a check up, also clean out the mounting hole.

 

XB12R for a check up, clean the pin and lube , push it in the hole a few times with out the rubber , so the grease will also go deep in the sliding hole.

 


XB12R for a check up, mount the rubber gaiter back in the slot.

 

XB12R for a check up, these sliding pins can go in cross threaded very easy , due to the shape off the starting threads, make sure you put in in strait, and best to do , screw it in the caliper first .

 


XB12R for a check up, and than slide the pin in the bracket and remount the rear brake.

 


XB12R for a check up, checking the primary chain tension.. still ok , measure on at least 3 spots.

 


XB12R for a check up, old model side stand pivot pin... check if it is still tight.

XB12R for a check up, and loosen the front axle.. direction is clearly stated , support the front off the bike.

 

XB12R for a check up, loosen the caliper and take the wheel out.. bearings are still good.

 

XB12R for a check up, wheel back in and tighten the front axle 55 NM.

XB12R for a check up, the 2 front chin spoiler bolts where missing.. do to the position the holes where dirty , clean up with a thread chaser.

 

XB12R for a check up, chin spoilers vibrate very hard, use loctite on the screw.

XB12R for a check up, support the front off the engine to relieve the front engine mount.

 

XB12R for a check up, remove the front engine mount bolt , loosen the clutch cable bracket.

 

XB12R for a check up, and remove the head mounting bolts.

 

XB12R for a check up, old model rubber mount, is done for. you will feel much more engine vibrations.

 

XB12R for a check up, old style and new style engine mount , the old is vulcanized , the new style uses a pressed in rubber.

 

XB12R for a check up, old style uses a rubber disk end off travel limiter on the bolt, the new style not ( is integrated in the rubber )

 

XB12R for a check up, lube the bolt with some neverseas.

 

XB12R for a check up, and screw the front mount bolt in the frame.

 

XB12R for a check up, red loctite on the mount head bolts.

 

XB12R for a check up, screw in the head bolts with out tension , it can be you need to play a little with the engine support for this , and TQ the bolts to 66 NM

 

XB12R for a check up, bolt to the head secure, tighten the front mount bolt also to 66 NM , and put back the clutch cable bracket.

 

XB12R for a check up, check the battery terminals... they come loose allot off times.

XB12R for a check up, check the seat bracket , when yo don't pay attention while putting the seat back, you can misplace the seat on top off the bracket and bend it in, the R seats need to be slided in to position.

 


XB12R for a check up, the old style oil level dipsticks can be hard to read, cleaning it good and making it dry will help.

 


XB12R for a check up, as the differance is easy to tell now, just a drip more to bring it up to max level.. and test ride.
