25-9-2014 XB9SX, big service and front disk change

26-9-2014 - very nice Buell XB9SX 2009, a joy to work on even with 34000 km, as the bike is driven and kept with care.

Xb9SX big service, the bike was clean, but as it rained some loose sand was over the filler cap, clean this before you loosen it .

Xb9SX big service, Oil drain while hot.

Xb9SX big service, while the oil is draining remove the covers for the rest off the service.

Xb9SX big service, Power clutch was mounted earlier, this means a little different adjustment.

Xb9SX big service, outer gater was protected for the rain.

Xb9SX big service, a little tell tale sign the bike is kept very well, little debris on the gearbox plug, and alsmost nothing on the oil drain plug.

Xb9SX big service, cleaned the plugs and new o-ring and hydraulic sealer loctite to screw theme back in.

Xb9SX big service, primed the new oil filter , i like the k&n screw on, strong filter and with the external hex very easy to screw on and remove with out special tools https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=23&cid=0&s=kn-177&a&aname=Buell_XB_KN_Performance_Oil_filter_

Xb9SX big service, on the somewhat older bikes i started to check the oil lines by pulling on theme if the clips are still good.

Xb9SX big service, gearbox back to level , and mechanisme back in.

Xb9SX big service, belt check... 34000 km still the first belt, and in good condition..

Xb9SX big service, primairy tension was a little tight on one spot.

Xb9SX big service, new spark plug front.

Xb9SX big service, rear pads little un even, not really strange to see this, as the sliding action needs some more force to over come , so the pad to the piston will tough always first.

Xb9SX big service, make me smile when i pull out the wheel axles , nice and greasy.

Xb9SX big service, wheel bearings perfect.

Xb9SX big service, on request from customer, new pads for the rear , choose the less aggressive typehttps://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=3393&cid=0&s=fd103&a&aname=Buell_XB912_S1_S3M2X1_rear_brake_pads

Xb9SX big service, caliper cleaned, piston pushed back and new pads is.

Xb9SX big service, check battery terminals.

Xb9SX big service, very nice and clean with 34000 km done, would been normal to see here a little oil spray from the breathers.

Xb9SX big service, check vacuum port cap, still good.

Xb9SX big service, rear spark plug.

Xb9SX big service, and check the spark plug cables for corrosion.

Xb9SX big service, filter can used a new one, normaly we would recommend a k&n, but in this case , complete stock bike the normal one will do just perfect.

Xb9SX big service, next front end.

Xb9SX big service, vibrating while braking, you see the different color bands on the disk , firt sign.

Xb9SX big service, little show and tell what will happen to disk when they become warped , use a marker and draw line on the disk,.

Xb9SX big service, gently pull the brake lever while rotating the wheel, you see where the pads tough first , here middle.

Xb9SX big service, here some less toughing.

Xb9SX big service, and here allot only in the middle.

Xb9SX big service, only toughing the middle again, this would not mean you have to feel this , but the braking surface is reduced = less stopping power, in this case also vibrating as the warping was not even on the disk.

Xb9SX big service, front wheel out, bearings are perfect.

Xb9SX big service, after removing the old disk , check the springs that they did not stuck.

Xb9SX big service, little loctite on the bolts, and notice the position off the dogs.

Xb9SX big service, tq down the bolts to 35 NM not to tight, they can break. An our new Front Brake disc on with 1 year full warranty https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=3356&cid=9769&s&a&aname=Buell_XB_1125_1190_FRONT_brake_disc_TUV

Xb9SX big service, front fork oil change.

Xb9SX big service, max rebound was here ( screw sticking out and not matching alinement )

Xb9SX big service, and i like it to be here when max. flat and point to point, this way you have the full travel off the rebound adjuster.

Xb9SX big service, new disk = new pads , as the old pads are worn in on the warped disk, best way to ruin the new disk https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=3360&cid=0&s=fd402&a&aname=Buell_XB912_FRONT_brake_pads_6_Piston

Xb9SX big service, proud off our disk, looks good and brakes better  https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=3356&cid=0&s=df820&a&aname=Buell_XB_1125_1190_FRONT_brake_disc_TUV

Xb9SX big service, loctite on the caliper bolts and tighten to 50 NM.

Xb9SX big service, some zip ties on the clutch cable boot to prevent rain / spay water to come in, close not onl the top but also the bottom for the front wheel spraying up.

Xb9SX big service, brake fluid change front.

Xb9SX big service, and rear.

Xb9SX big service, super nice bellypan back on.

You can buy the bellypan here:https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=606&cid=0&s=ILMVEO.003.RBUEL.K&a&aname=Buell_XB9XB12_Carbon_Fiber_Belly_pan_long

Xb9SX big service, noticed the tail section was a little loose, tighten the scew.

Xb9SX big service, and the low beam bulb was broken, best is to remove the complete unit to replace it , 2 screw on the side.

Xb9SX big service, and 1 screw in the bottom, these can be corroded, the brass insert can spin in the head light , when loose use some neverseas on the screwhttps://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?guid=YXHFSC&aid=5164&cid=0&s=anti&a&aname=Bel-ray_assembly_lube_for_axles_bolts_and_nuts

Xb9SX big service, new bulb in.

Xb9SX big service, check function before mounting every thing back.

Xb9SX big service, last thing before test ride  setting suspension, customer wanted a very light steering bike, but was set really hard, and i noticed the front legs where a little high mounted, i put them in the lowest position and adjusted the dampening according to weight, in my opinion much better than very hard, i hope he likes it to.
