23-9-2014 - Buell XB12X high oil consumption. Buell 1125 fuel pump trouble shooting.

Xb12X high oil consumption, 20000 km after rebuild this bike is using a little to much oil, strip down to inspect the cylinder bores.

Xb12X high oil consumption, light striping on the front bore, but looks ok, need to measure to see if the bore is still good.

Xb12X high oil consumption, head off, bore looks bad, some rough spots, looks like corrosion ? will measure these and look if it can do with just rings, or a over bore and new pistons and rings.

Xb12X high oil consumption, piston pin clips out ,put some paper in the case bores, so no debris can fall in the case ( or the piston pin clip  )

 

Xb12X high oil consumption, while new the piston pins all can be pushed in by hand, removing after some KM done, usualy need a little more force to remove theme, we use tool for this , not to put pressure on the big end bearings , heating with heat gun can also help to push theme out.

 

Xb12X high oil consumption, checking piston pin play, needs to slide with very little drag , but no play to be felt.

Xb12X high oil consumption, cylinders off to the machine shop.. rotate the engine back up and mount the v-brace.

 

Xb12X high oil consumption, strap to carry the weight off the engine, so the bike can be moved and take on the lift.

1125 trouble shooting fuel pomp, ground point in the front cylinder left side , is good and terminals are not broken.

 

1125 trouble shooting fuel pomp, normal ground point to the frame has been changed, to the subframe and is good.

 

1125 trouble shooting fuel pomp, ground on pump looks ok ? but as the customer has been repairing the fuel pump and the pressure is bleeding way to fast ( pressure should stay on relative high pressure in the system for 20 minutes ) i will take a look at the fuel pump first.

1125 trouble shooting fuel pomp, the fuel pump is secured with a big c-clip.

 

1125 trouble shooting fuel pomp, c-clip out and use the 1/4-20 bolt hole to pull out the pumo.
