2-1-2017 - 14-12-2016 Buell S1 Bigbore rebuild
time to put the heads on
drop off oil on the threads and the flats on the bolt heads, to reduce friction
and tq down the bolts
mnnn all black... will clean this up and paint this one to
and need check the flatness on the mounting points on the heads as the markings tel me it is not really flat , as these brackets and bolts break easy... some thing to check
bottom end , oil pump gear in
pinion gear, red loctite for the nut and TQ down
i will give these a polish... Bling
lifters back in
and position rods in
nice cams... will bring out the beast
cams in
last change to prime the big end bearings , give here a few squirts
and cam cover on... a small fortune is spend on bolts on this bike :-)
timing cup in
and pick up in
for all others the O-ring first in the head... with the colapseble pushrod covers best to do the o-rings on the pipe
and push the top side into the head
and load the spring collar to place the lock
banke ...old skool... don't know black ? or polish ? or red ?
anyway need to open the bracket up, as the little thicker coating on the frame makes the bracket a little to small... if i clamp it down now i destroi the coating... lets not do that.. will open up the clamp a litle
new or old ? i prever XB style covers , but with the crazy lift the clearance was a issue with the old covers , see if XB covers ar a little higher
the inside was grined to make room
but it needed so much the cover is not oil tight anymore with out silicone :-( i'm not going to go that route
so rocker box with cover upside down, mesuring with out gaskets
looks like the Xb covers will fit.. .perhaps a little extra clearance need to be made
first the rocker boxes on , nice roller rockers
the pushrods where marked.. i will check the lenght anyway
the lenght differance is allot more than stock... stil exhaust is the long one ;-)
old style bolts... there are short and long ones.. while the new style are all the same length
check the rocker arm shafts if they are alined.. as there is a slot cut in theme so the bolt acts as a lock.. but it the shaft is not alined it will act as a bolt cutter and screw up the bolt
no... these will be binned... i take some unfucked heads please
as always all bolts in first before you tighten... as there are no locating pins
S1's are a little more off a challange to reach all bolts
with some mock up clay... i will check the clearance to the cover off the rocker arms
so cols on with out gasket , right rear bolt... special tool is needed ( or cut a allen key )
ok need to give it a little grinding to give it clearance enough , but much better than the old covers
with out the front mount... very easy acces to the hard to get bolt :-)
and top tie rod support in place
old type intake manifold don't come with dimple for the bolts
so they are a little more difficult to get the screws in... nice ported btw :-)
temperature sensor for the ignition was originaly mounted... i think i mount this on a other place... want to have a clean look on this bike
MAP sensor also for the ignition to be used a Voes .but the port has got to go ( was connected to a meter on the dash )
fuel hose i will also replace... hard. and brittle
and the 45 mm mikuni i on
S1 with electronic speedo.. yes.. no problem the mounting flat is on the case, you just need to dril the holes
speed sensor in
stator... little silicone around the plug to help it seal
and a little silicone to bed the wires in, protective plate mounted
and crank seal in place
old style detent ?.... no 6 speed one ;-)
baker 6 speed
sliding it in... bolt with red loctite and 24 Nm
adn shift lever on
adjustment is the same 3mm rod
primiary drive back on
pressure plate with lock up... to keep the clutch lever pull from being stupit heavy, but still can handle the 150 + Nm this bike will make
a little bit a off a fiddle to put the lock ring in
oil filter pick up / oil pressure check bal back on. as we mount a oil cooler adaptor , put red locktite on this, so it will not come loose
and oil pressure sensor back on
