The fastes stock Buell 1125R on the Dragstrip
2-2-2022 - update 8-10-2013 This article is all about a man and his bike 2008 1125R on the dragstrip in the UK. (United Kingdom) With a stock bike, we mean, stock engine not opened and parts you can run on the street.
When I (dris Easy Rider) started in the beginning in 2003 with dragracing on my BigBore Buell XB9 (i kept all the progress stored here) (the website and forum are old data) I was fallen completly in love with the amount of Torque.
Then you grow bigger and use bigger bikes look here: Pro Stock Buell
But enough about me. Here is a story about another Guy His name is Joe and his 1125R, and his goals to go as fast as possible with his bike on the dragstrip.
And yes he uses our stage 1 kit for the Buell 1125R can be found here in our shop
The foto below is how he started
Here is his story.
Drag racing started for me on twist and go scooters i ran many records and still hold the quickest aspirated scooter 11.9et@105mph to this present day and then started to run my xb 12s for a few years at R.W.U.B drag days with a few bolt on mods i had a best of 11.3et@ 123mph this was still a street legal bike i then entered it in super twins et class 2008 i did two rounds on it .
Then i tested the new 1125r on the test i just took it to the straightest road i could find to see how the bike would launch and go in a straight line i just cound not believe how quick it was and smooth gear changes .
I went straight back to the dealers and placed my order the sales person was asking me how good it was around corners i said don't really no mate and to top it off they gave me some money off to advertise for them BLACKBEAR in new market .
As soon as i got it i ran the motor in had the 1st service and took it to to the drag strip and ran my 1st 10 second run 10.9 et .I then used it for for the last 5 rounds in super twins and got 4 x1st and 1x 2nd and took the national championship 2008 .
The best i ran stock was a 10.5et @134 mph i fitted a saron exhaust system and ran a 10.4et all this progress i was making was emailed to Erik Buell him self who always replied back to me .
The main thing i found about this bike was tuning parts but i came up with a company on the world wide web www.twinmotorcycles.nl and read about there ecm fuel mapping and after a few emails to Dris and one to Henry Duga i had my hands on a race ecm which i shipped to Dris .
The 1st map was installed and mapped to the saron as the torque hammer was not available yet .
Once installed i went on a road test it had completely transformed the bike the roads were wet and i was lighting up the tyre in most gears and at the drag strip the times and speed were just getting better and better and with this set up still stock wheel base The 1st ever nike second run was done a 9.92 ET and a best speed of 140.71 mph and in super twins et 2009 i took second place . This was with the Torque Hammer and the Twin Motorcycles fuelmap inside.
Now for 2010 i have the latest fuel map and the torque hammer i have also have had the swing arm extended 150mm and gone to a race chain conversion i also run a quickshifter the engine is still stock and i am moving up to top gas class but with no slick or wheelie bar and have ago in 9.50 bike as a streettwin in the United Kingdom has not ever been entered in this ,best ET to date is a 9.83 i will let you know how the year goes. None of this would of been possible without Twin Motorcycles help and support.
Below you find pictures of the bike, Be aware this is a bone stock bike with a street tune from Twin Motorcycles
From here we will keep all the dragrace weekends updated.
Here are the results from the Easter Thunder Ball weekend on the Dragstrip Santa Pod in the United Kingdom:

update 25-4-2009:
after a hectic weekend .ran a 9.7 et on the test and tune and then noticed a oil leak coming from the banjo bolt oil line behind the heat cover above the rear brake pedal .just thinking it had come loose went to tighten it up but it had sheered off with a quick call to my dealer blackbear in newmarket and a 2.5 hour trip to pick it up i was back in business for the 1st qualifying round at 4.30 pm all results listed below .got knocked out in 1st round missed a shift went into neutral but did'nt qualify last most of the other bike are capable of running low nines and about 200hp so i was pleased with the result running in top gas next week 1st round of 7 i will keep you posted
Update 17/5/2010;
ROUND 1 OF TOP GAS SUPERTWINS after 2 days of qualifying 3 runs per day i was 5th in a 7 bike field all the top gas bikes apart from my 1125r buell stage 1 tuned by twinmotorcycles and my mates supercharged sv 1000 are running wheelie bars and slicks .so a hard class to run in on a street bike and in the 1st round or elimination i got big wheel spin which messed up the run and when looked at timing ticket i had him a 10th on the reaction and he only ran a 9.89 et but thats racing
ROUND 2 TOP GAS
only 1 day of qualifying 3 runs and managed to qualify 5th out of a 8 bike field but if you look at the times there are alot of bikes that ran a 9.8 et very close .got through 1st round of eliminations but got knocked out in the semi finals .one bike a vrod not so lucky but rider is fine
16-5-2010 UPDATE:
ROUND 1 OF TOP GAS SUPERTWINS after 2 days of qualifying 3 runs per day i was 5th in a 7 bike field all the top gas bikes apart from my 1125r buell stage 1 tuned by twinmotorcycles and my mates supercharged sv 1000 are running wheelie bars and slicks .so a hard class to run in on a street bike and in the 1st round or elimination i got big wheel spin which messed up the run and when looked at timing ticket i had him a 10th on the reaction and he only ran a 9.89 et but thats racing.
Update 22-6-2009:
Round 3 was a two day event held at santapod raceway with 3 qualifying runs on saturday then eliminations on sunday. I ran a personal best Time (pb) on 1st run a 9.56 et witch put me the 4th qualifier at the end of the day .On the sunday 1st elimination was against the man leading the points for topgas but with a win for me and a pb a 9.51 et . Then to the semi finals thats when it went wrong after do my burn out which i always do in 2nd gear i forgot to put back into 1st gear, which i have never done so launched in 2nd which lost me the race and a place in the finals and that is the only goal this year for me a street buell in the finals against a top gas bike but it will happen soon watch this space .
UPDATE: 29-6-2010
round 4 topgas
one day to qualify and 3 goes and on the 1st qualifier ran a 9.58 et which put me in 3rd all day ,but they gave us another run on sunday morning which put me in 5th place .the next run was the 1st elimination with a win to me then semi finals with another win which put me in the finals the 1st none wheelie bar and slick bike to get in the finals but was runner up but took home a nice topgas trophy my 1st in topgas but not the last .
you got to remember this is a stock motor with a stage 1 tune up from twinmotorcycles running a street tyre and no bars running against full on topgas bikes with remote starters slicks and bars they get towed to the start and towed back to the pits and run on c16 fuel i still run mine on pump gas.
update 15-07-2010:
Here below you can see the current results as of today in the TOP GAS Class
Joe is riding in. This is not a streetbike class like Joe's bike, but a class where
engines run 160 cubic inch engines Yep, he is not doing very bad at all.

Winning from a Topgas Bike:
update 11-09-2010:
Round 5 running with a stock Buell 1125R in the UK Top Gas Series, it was a 3 day event with 2 days of qualifying and 1 day of eliminations. The 1st day there was a strong side wind but at the end of the day i had qualified 2nd the best result so far for me we had another day of qualifying but some rain so only had one pass this did not change any thing
on elimination day i got through to the final but lost out to the turbo v-rod and took runner up .i have 2 more rounds to go and i am in 3rd position at the moment in the top gas points remember this is still a street bike with a stock motor and just the
Twin Motorcycles stage 1 tune on it: look here and new intake stacks they just developed for Racing at Bonneville Now I wonder whats it going to run like with the stage 2 kit installed ?.
27-09-2010 update:
TOP GAS ROUND 6
This is a two day event at Santa Pod raceway in UnitedKingdom the national finals one day of qualifying and one day of eliminations .The day of qualifying began with a very strong fresh side wind the track was super sticky and on my 1st run i ran my 2nd ever fastest time of 9.53et and with my 60ft down a bit that would of been a high 9 .4 et i had 2 more attempts a 9.59et and 9.64 et witch made me number 4 qualifier at the end of the day the last run was done in the dark and going 140mph through the trap in to darkness with no lights. That was very interesting. The day of eliminations they started off good but the weather put stop to it and after many attempts to dry the track the event was rained off . One more round to go the extreme bike weekend.

top gas round 7 Finals
back at santapod raceway the bike extreme weekend 5 qualifying runs then in to eliminations .on my 1st qualifying pass i ran my Pb a 9.46 ET my 1st ever 4 so i was really pleased with that the conditions were great and the track was too the rest of my passes on the Saturday were a 9.51 ,9.52 ,9.50 if i was in 9.5 bike i would of been number 1 qualifier instead number 5 in top gas but i was so happy with my Pb .
Sunday came and to take full advantage of these conditions i dropped a tooth on the rear sprocket and ran a 9.47 on the last qualifying run .then it was eliminations i lost but ran a 9.44 ET so happy very happy .many tanks to Dris and twinmotorcycles cound not of done this with out them

update 1-4-2011:
Congratulations Joe, on holding a new worldrecord on the 1/4 mile with a stock engine buell.
Joe managed to ride a 9.28 on the quarter mile with a top speed of 142,56 miles an hour.. wel done.
and to top it all off i won fastest bike at the event
Update 06-04-2011:
So we are ready for today with a good result, teh buell 1125R makes 152 RWHP SAE corrected and 120 NM SAE corrected on the rear wheel.. In theory the bike should be able to run a better time now then 9.28 (-:
And here is a graph with a compare to a bone stock bike:
Update 09-04-2011:
After we tuned the bike Joe had a change to ride on a unprepaired track. just got back from testing ran a 9.26@ 146mph and backed up the mph with another 146 mph but as it was just a run what you brung day non prepped track and with all the extra beans put in the bike spinning the rear so my 60ft was down by 6 hundreds so on a good track or trying different launch techniques there a 9.1 in that bike for sure this bike now with the right map from Dris in it for the twinmotorcycles stacks and EBR pipe pulls harder than a school boy with a playboy mag .
Here is the Movie.
and the ticket
Update 13-04-2011:
Joe, was here for tuning his bike and wrote a little story: After being asked to have the 1st fitment of the Erik Buell Racing sidewinder drag exhaust and running some great times at the drag strip a9.28 et with it and after speaking to Dris it was time for a twinmotorcycles fuel map taylor made for my bike as i had only had fuel maps sent to me via email and the last one i had was in 2009 since then stacks fitted air box modification and now the drag pipe .
so off i set to the Netherlands with bike in my works van passport and a tom tom .i left my house at 4 am tuesday morning to Harwich to catch the 9.00 am ferry to the hook of Holland and then straight off the ferry to twinmotorcycles .on the way there Dris rang me and asked how long would i be as he was running his clutch in on his shelby i said not long i will pull in and wait for you so i waited and Dris pulled up beside me and said follow me i live up here then he smoked the tyres up the road. i then thought this is the kind of guy i like to deal with LOL
After unloading the buell and feeling what 1000nm of torque feels like in a street car it was time to hit the sack as tomorrow was going to be a busy day and no sooner said we were strapping the bike down in the dyno room .The 1st thing we did was get a reading the amount of ponies we started off with and with a peak power 145 rwhp and 108 nm that was a good start we found out that the bike was running on the fat side witch was a surprise to me as the amount of mods done to it after the map was done .Now time for Dris to work his magic this dyno room is his office and the only thing i could do was watch and be tea boy for the day and what a long day it was i thought i gave my bike some abuse at the strip but the dyno room well put it this way these motors are Strong .after a long day we had a Strong 152 rwhp with 120nm and the motor only lost 2 hp when hot which is important on drag racing as you run in all conditions .Dris also sorted out cold starting and lowering the cold temp for me he also can up with a nice little trick on a sensor but cannot tell you about that sorry .
while i there i met Martin ,Ric ,and Dris other half with a little one on the way plus all the cats and a dog .i had a good look around the show room and work shop and it is a shrine to Buell the people are nice and help full and is well worth a visit if you are in that area .
i stayed another night there we had a few more things to sort out and it was a big thanks to twinmotorcycles from me and off to the ferry back to the UK .
I went testing with the new tune on saturday with the extra power and its feels like a different bike it pull so hard now i can feel the thing twisting ,i was spinning off the line and running 9.2 my 60ft was 6 hundreds down from normal .I need to learn to launch the bike with the extra power its a different animal now it even sounds different and when i sort this out theres a 9.1 in there for sure best to date 9.26 et @ 146 mph http://youtu.be/WhzshRBbosI
And some pictures:
update 19-4-2011:

and a new record and Personla best time for Joe 9,24 on the 1/4 mile and a new pb on the 1/8 with 5.96 earlier this morning still a lot of potention left
Update 26-4-2011
just got back from racing 9.5 bike found it hard to run a 9.5 et i was shutting off at the 1000ft and still running a 9.4 et at 120mph most of the field the 4 pots were struggling to run the number on a full pass but i managed to run a 9,549 which was a number 2 qualifier but ended up as number 6 after 3 days qualifying but i was busy trying for a pb and running full passes i was pleased with a 9.24 @147 mph all these passes were made on the hottest weekend ever recorded for time of year with no air quality .i was looking forward to a night pass with good air and a good track but as we were just about to run and a comp bike rodded his motor and the track was closed who knows what that pass would of been .to day was eliminations i got through the 1st round but pulled a red in the 2nd but saw it and went balls out and ran a 9.22 et many thanks to Dris and twinmotorcycles for this fuel map and stacksErik Buell Racing for the side winder pipe and mike1125r for all his input and help
And the new record set at 9.22 on the 1/4 mile.
Update 1-5-2011:

And the ticket:
Update 16.5-2011
after a 1st round in top gas bike still with no slick or bars i qualified number 3 and got to the finals against a 200hp turbo v rod it was a good race but the v rod won .but ran 152 mph and a 9.11et in some of the runs.
update 27-6-2011:
Joe's 3rd round in top gas bike this weekend and for the 1st time 9 bikes have entered making a 16 bike field. The Buell 1125R and me are in 3rd at the moment you got to remember this, the bike is in street trim no slick no wheely bars and running a stock 1125r motor with Twin Motorcycles fuel map and EBR side winder drag pipe. The other bikes are full Top Gas bikes apart from the SV running in street trim but super charged.
This is our 3rd round of top gas and this was the biggest event on the calender at Santa Pod the summer nationals there was going to be 9 bikes but only 8 turned it ,6 bikes with slicks and wheelie bars and 2 of us with street bikes treaded tyres and no bars a SV1000 with a supercharger and my Buell 1125R
with a unopened stock motor .
We had a day of qualifying on Saturday, the bike goes very strong with a lot of head wind and very hot air but as Dris had set the bike up to run strong even when hot i ran a 9.35et @ 140.78 mph. I did not improve on that during the rest of the day but was number 1 qualifier on the Sunday we had one more go which was 1st thing a bit cooler and run a 9.32et @ 143.93 mph and stayed number 1 qualifier which was a 1st for me in this class
The rest of the day it just got hotter about 28 deg but the buell ran a 9.28et in one round and made it though the days eliminations to the final against the super charged sv 1000 who is my mate and we have wanted a street bike final in top gas but i took the buell to win the event
Thanks to Dris for the strong fuel map ,EBR for the side winder drag pipe.
Update 6-7-2011:
The current listing in the Top Gas Series:
Update 20-7-2011:
The last weekend was not a easy weekend. Lots of rain over the weekend with a very strong head wind. Joe ran the fastest ET out of the top gas class a 9.29 at 142 mph, There was not 1 bike faster. There was a personal best for the 60ft. Joe run his best 60ft a 1.45. We think that if there was not a very strong head wind that would of been a 9.0 second run. Last weekend was not a part of the super twins rounds just free demo runs. Joe have entered the 8.5 bike class for this weekend and will try for a PB there
update 9-9-2011:
A nice story in a UK magazine about the 1125R of joe:
Update 27-9-2011:
this is round 5 of the top gas series in the uk we had 1 full day of qualifying which was three passes and with a sight head wind the best i ran was a 9.27 et @ 141mph which gave me the number 2 spot at the end of the day .
race day 1st i had a super charged v-rod running a slick and bars that was no problem ,next up a turbo v-rod which was won on the lights and a little on et ,this got me in to the finals against my mate on the super charged sv 1000 he is also in street trim like me but more power .we were all called up for the finals he had lane choice he had already beaten the other buell in the 1st round so i told him you cannot beat two buells in one day ,the lights went down i had a bit of a spin and he had got me on the tree he was a head but by the half track his bike died and a just shot passed him to take the win ,i found out that the pulley for the charger had sheered off .so at the moment i an in the lead with 70 points but by taking the turbo v-rod out earlier the worst i can do is 2nd at the next round ,it may not be the quickest bike but the reliability of the buell has played a big part in the racing.
Update 18-10-2011:
The last round in top gas the bike extreme meeting at Santa pod race way
we had i day of qualifying on the Saturday the weather way a strong side wind but very cold we managed 3 runs witch put me number 3 with a 9.32 ET .the next day was eliminations the wind was a very strong head wind and a warmer day i got through the 1st round but the next was down to who ever won was the top gas winner for the year and with lane choice going to the other bike the race was on see ticket below and see the reaction time as well it was a good race .i took 2nd place in the national top gas bike for 2011 on my street buell with just a stock motor and twinmotorcycles stage 1 tune and EBR drag pipe many thanks to twinmotorcycles for all there help and support through the year and now cannot wait until 2012 with the stage 2 kit fitted . i have a few more RWYB left this year so would hope to beet my 9.1 ET.
Here is the bike of Nigel, He runs our stage 1 Kit for the 1125, And he needs to practice some more. He also run a 9 seconds and backed it up also. And a small word of him:
I did it! just! last 2 runs of the weekend, possibly the year, depending on the weather in 2 weeks time. After multiple 10.0's and even a 10.005 I finally nailed a 9.975 @ 132.9 then backed it up with a 9.995 - hit the limiter in 3rd so could have been better.
I'm completely worn out! that was the hardest, most frustrating weekends racing I've ever done. great track, plenty of grip and some monster chest bashing wheelies. There's definitely more to come if I can get the power in earlier, the 9.99 had a 1.51 60ft when it lifted I just punched 2nd and she gently nosed down and kept on haulin ass. yee haa!
So not the fastest 1125 but defo the fattest - 200 and plenty lb's before I put my gear on- no titanium bolts, mag alloy wheels or lithium batteries and no midget jockey on board. - 95 octane pump gas too.
Thanks to Joe for encouragment and advice. And Dris for the remap, torquehammer and velocity stacks (and yup they do work,10.1's without them)
Oh and she's got 16000miles on the clock.
Update 28-7-2012

He also won different events already
This was round 4 of 8 it was a 2 day event set at shakespearecountyraceway along side a RWUB meeting we had one day of quaffing with 4 runs 'the track conditions were very poor and did not get one full pass in with out spinning up even the gas bikes with slicks were spinning up .
The day of eliminations was the hottest day of the year the track got glued and the times came down had a bye run 1st as i was number one qualifier, this was my best time of the weekend my 60ft times were down all weekend and this affected my ET but got through the next two eliminations to take another win.
UPDATE 8-10-2013
Joe Elliot did it again on the Twin Motorcycles 2008 Tuned Buell 1125R and won the 1st place in super twin top gas and won the national championship at the extreme bike weekend. Congratulations Joe Elliot for this awsome work.
